Health and safety law states:
Employees must be trained and clearly instructed in their duties.
Employers and host companies must ensure contractors are properly trained and competent to work safely.
Everyone who works for you, including self-employed people, needs to know how to work safely and without risks to health. So you need to train them so they know what hazards and risks they may face and how to deal with them.
Some employees may have particular training needs, for example:
You also need to ensure that new, inexperienced or young employees are adequately supervised.

IOSH Managing Safely
All managers and supervisors play a vitally important role in ensuring that safety considerations are assessed and appropriate action is taken to control occupational risks in the workplace. The law demands that all undertakings must be properly and effectively managed in respect of the Health and Safety aspects arising throughout an organisation.
Managing safely is about people, property, systems and equipment. This course will examine the reasons why over 500 people are killed and around 30,000 are seriously injured at work each year. It will also show that the Health and Safety Executive place responsibility on management for allowing 75% of deaths and injuries to occur.
